WANSFEL'S RIDES

My first motorcycle was a 1965 Yamaha 65cc street bike.  I saved my allowance and odd job dollars for too many years for my (then 14 year old) mind to comprehend. $269 delivered to the house.  I put 80 miles on that that thing before I put it back in the garage that evening.

The BOMs

This is a list/links to the BOMs.  I've been setting up the route for the MT1000/Best of Montana adventured rides since 2014.  They each have their own Blog, so some of this will just be links to those locations.

The MT1000 rides started back in 2010. My first one was in 2011.  I was hooked. In 2012 TIMMER took the lead and set the route. I started providing input and the routing slowly morphed onto my plate for the next couple of years.

The Best of Montana rides have slowly grown over the years. 1,000 miles has grown to 1,500 miles for 2016.  There are many repeat riders every year as well as new riders.  There have been many enduring friendships developed in these years. While there are many "ADV Rallies" every year, I doubt any of them have the same format as the BOM.  To keep the planning simple, the formality of the ride has actually reduced over the years.  What are the rules?  There are no rules.  We post a route, a start date and if anyone shows up, it is their ride to ride.  No promises, no fees, just the ride.  Many riders only complete a portion of the ride. They enter at the start or some point further into the ride and maybe leave depart early so the composition of active riders is highly variable.  Ride with a group you feel comfortable with or ride alone.  Heck, you can even take the route information and ride in another time frame.  Like I said - no rules.

Montana has some "bucket list" areas for the Adventure Riding crowd.  We've covered and recovered in different directions and combinations, but often add something entirely new.  So you get the best of the best and something new with each new ride. Since most of the riding has been in the West and Southwest parts of the state, it was only natural to stretch into Idaho.  The mountains know no boundaries. This added to the pool of new areas and quality of tracks to be had.

For 2016, there was a distinct chatter looking to move a bit East. So that is what is happening now. But that doesn't mean we're leaving the mountains, just finding some new ones with some glimpses of the Montana High Plains.  More historical places and above all, more remote isolated views of the Big Sky Country.

Previous MT1000/BOM rides have been well documented with ride reports posted on ADVRider.com.  So if you want a feel for the soul of the BOMs, here are some links:

Motorcycle Adventure Riding is an addiction.

Now I need a place to put everything where I can find it.  This is that place.  It will be mostly links ot other places, but some original input as well.
